Did I say I like to cook?

Yep. Like to eat what I cook too.
Flan is a treat.
This looks like the real spanish one, but comes from a box. Tastes yummy.

The picture of the paper doll I made from Sandra Everston's book.
Love that book, it is the most fun.

The birds are hatched.

I cannot get a picture of them yet, but hear little chirps by my kitchen window.
So excited.
Instead here are some pictures from my workspace.
The doll is a folk doll made for me in NZ years ago. A very old lady constructed her from bits in the attic.
It is quite big about 12". I hang her on the wall and can used her for a pin board.

I like to create dolls, I think that is obvious by now, so here is a paper doll I made. She is dressed in cheese cloth I dyed and fashioned into a gown. Made Big Ben out of cardstock.
They sit on a gift box.

the Avocado tree will bear lots this season

another Victoria magazine idea.

Here is another project from Victoria Mag. same issue.
I had the necessary items, it was fast and looks pretty in a window.
Use an old bottle, add torn fabric tied with a vintage brooch.
Pop in a flower and there it is.
Here my version and theirs. My vase has the white flower.

Bird in nest update

Excited this morn. when the birdy was off getting breakfast.
I stood on a stool and took a photo of the 2 eggs.
Went to get some water while I had a chance, but there she was back on her nest. Oh well. Maybe next time.
Rather large eggs and small bird.
I made sure I did not touch anything around the plant and nest. I know better.

Continuing the floral theme.

Have you seen Victoria magazine, revamped?
One issue features a fabric vase with test tubes of fake flowers, could also be real.
I liked the idea, had the necessaries near my table so came up with my version.
Here is the plan.

One piece chintz 20 x 5-1/2" long. Cut out with pinking sheers like they did.
Fold top down 6" and bottom up 3-1/2". Both to wrong side.
Now fold bottom up again 4" for pocket.
Sew 3 channels for tubes, 1-1/2" wide and sew the outer edges about 1/2" all the way down.
Sew a ribbon hanger to the back on each side. I used 25" of rayon binding.
Make a fussy cut flower with a scattering of pink seed beads in center and attach to top side. My idea that.
Now here is the original and my copy.
The tubes I used were plastic and held beads at one time.
Why not send me your pictures if you make one.

Are you feeling like it is Spring yet?

I am in a sort of floral mood so here is a crepe paper flower I made. Used Martha's nice and thick double sided crepe paper and just winged it. Cut out 3 rounds of petals in graduated sizes. Glued around 3 stamen. Added 3 velvet leaves.
Found a green vintage bottle and stuffed it inside with some tinsel to keep it steady.

snaps in the garden today

Spring is here after a rather cool Island winter.
The plants are starting to grow some more and
there should be lots of pretty blooms soon.

Here's a glimpse of my 'jungle' for you to enjoy.

lace, sepia and embroidery

They go so well together.
The small box is very vintage, it has old ribbon, lace, black and white picture and golden gimp adorning it. Memories are made from these. Right out of a Grandmother's trunk.
The oval picture is one I embroidered on a silk print of a French postcard.

Sepia and Lace

I love Lace!
Sepia photos are some special favorites and seem to go well with old lace and embroidery.

I did the embroidery on silk. It is from a poster found in a Spanish flea market.

My Paris Attic Apt.

little birdie on a nest

She is sitting on eggs in my hanging plant.
Does not seem timid at all. Safe there from marauding critters.

Catch a coconut

Before you get a bunch of lovely coconuts on the head.

the box cover

I did a wedding journal a while ago.

The wedding journal is very soft and dreamy. I combined paper and fabric in the pages. Vintage lace was used and actual pieces of antique clothing.

The pages are a combination of gluing and sewing and they are all tied together with old ribbon.

To add to the presentation I made a box to hold the gift, it is collaged with fibers and fabric, lace and feathers. The box is softly lined with pink silk draped over a padded interior.

Here are some pages and a picture of the box cover.

Finished the purse

Couple of pictures of some recent purses and a cuff. Love cuffs, they are easy to wear and so comfortable. No need to worry if they get lost or dirty.
i will add these to my Etsy soon.

Project I made yesterday

this is a Compendium, or folder for letters, cards, tags or other things. It has 2 plastic pockets inside that open to the center so things stay put.

The covers are paper and fabric collaged onto interfacing and stenciled and stamped a bit.

The inside is hand dyed paper made strong with Wonder under ironed on.

Lastly I put a picture from a magazine on the front and a woman printed on fabric on the reverse side.

remember Hawaii 5 O

Down in Chinatown are remnants of 'old Hawaii', and on a corner there is this one.

Wo Fat, does that bring back lots of memories?

Nearby is the old Aloha Tower and the newish marketplace.

Don Ho's cafe is there and maintains a feel of the tropics and his personal style.

Doodles on the Lanai

I do like to draw but am not really good at it. Like to work fast and the results show that I think.
These were black and white. I tried coloring them on my Computer with a simple editing program. Not too bad I thought.

I was dreaming of the South of France, why when I live where it is heavenly?
Thought you may like to see the sketches of Provence I did today. They need lots of work.

Anyway here they are.

Having a lazy Sun Day

I just received the new issue of Altered Couture, here is a glimpe of my current article. It is on the left.
On the right a glimpse of a challenge for a future issue, Altered lingerie was the idea . I really Tarted mine up. Woohoo!

The magazine is glossy and rich looking, price too at 15.00. Worth it if you sew or like to re-invent clothing. I really enjoy recycling myself.

Some really great articles for altering Ts which I will try, we live in them in Hawaii.
One feature dear to my heart is the donation to the the Breast Cancer, Susan B. Komen Fund.
Given by Joni Greenman for auction. It is so pink and denim and lace and wonderful. Thanks so much to her thoughts and artistic abilities. We will win this fight.

Waiting for some addresses to come in to send items to winners.
Lovely sunny day here in the Islands after 2 mths of the rainy season.
Surf was up to 20 feet on Nth shore. There was a big competition up there.
Not for me, I am better with 2 feet on the sand.

couple of things I am working on

The pics are of some of my work in progress. The lady's face will be a purse

I have done all the stitching by hand couching. The print I did using the water method.

Love the way it looks, sort of aged and worn.

The darker collage is done with a method I call 'things left on my table'.

Just picked up bits that go together and that fell from other projects, scraps actually.

A favourite way I do this type of art. I expect you have tried it too. This was sewn by machine, will end up as a quilty I think.
