boxes for jewels

I have started to cover all kinds of found boxes.
Getting ready to put handmade brooches and gifts inside for the holiday season.
I save every one I get.
These include 2 that held smudge pots of blush. One that held a necklace from Japan. The Savon du Nord box is one I made from scratch.
I covered them with ledger paper, an old photo, copy only, and a torn page from a book.
I do keep the rest simple, maybe a twist of ribbon, a button, some glitter, silver leaf on the Paris box.
More next time.

Boxes, can't get enough

I am not always so organized.
Here is one time I think I did it.
My box to hold all my tag fixings.
The old cigar box, plentiful in the Islands.

More show pictures

How about this couture outfit?

Crochet in the bag, rather bottle. All plastic and re-cycled

Made a table cover with found remnants. Idea for Thanksgiving!

Looks good on the wall also.

My Trashion outfit for the show

I was Eliza Doolittle.
Made the costume from things I had.
Just fixed them and added stuff to create the look.
Wore the previous pictured hat.
Boots, and carried a basket of Lavender.
Oh! yes I wrote 'lavenders blue dilly, dilly', the song, on the apron with a marker.

Re-cycling show, out takes

I snapped these as we set up the show.

Two decks won a main prize, it was great.

I found the old bamboo tiki torches on the sidewalk on the way to the show so made them into some urban art.

The tunic is one I created 20 yrs ago, put together with some other odds and ends.

Love the blue hair day.

Just postcards

Sepia and lace, I start to sigh again.

Two of my French postcards and their back side. OOps!

Note one has 1903 on it.

Postcard

Embroidering postcards, not a new idea.
Mine are a bit different to the old cards.
Here is a sample, card I bought in Pasadena long ago.

My hat!

Here is my tea-cosy hat for the show.
Vintage hanky with hand blown glass vase of flowers.
Sits on my old dresser.

Lavender hearts

I am going to be an old fashioned lavender lady for the re-cycling fair. This next weekend.
In the mood for some lavender things. My costume is funky and almost complete, meanwhile here is a lavender (colored) heart decoration.
Good for real lavender to hang in the closet, hitched over a hanger.
Sweet on gift packages, pegboards. In the mudroom, I wish.
To make, I fold a stiff florists wire in half.
Close one end inside other, base of heart.
Push in the dip and manipulate the sides how you like. Wrap with rags, ribbon or florists tape.
Decorate with flowers on one side only looks best.
I use wire, thread or hot glue.
Tie on a vintage lace bow and a little ribbon hanger to the top. Nice for favors too.

can you stand another wee project?

Do I adore hedgehogs.

They were often found in our garden in NZ.

Here is my pincushion version.

Little pansy pincushion project

I make this little pincushion for a gift to a sewer.

I blanket st. around the whole front first.

Then blanket st. the back when you put it together. You can join up the 2 lines at the sides.
Put a light padding under the front velvet and do whiskers and face last. Slip a green 'stem' inside the 2 back velvets. Glue them.

I used different transfer techniques with varied results. Here are a few.

Made these items for a bride.
Two are shown here.

Marie's wigs

thought these were truly amazing.

Wigs for Marie-Antoinette in Tiffany window.

Artist is Jeff Rudell.

They are simply paper and quite unique.

Poor Marie

Did a collection of sweet Marie-Antoinette projects for a magazine.
Captivated by her sad story and her lovely aesthetics.
That is her gowns, her fans and feathers, and her palaces.
Her silken purse is here along with a more simple fabric collage.

Window shopping

Fab. window at Dior, loved to see the innovative trims on these tops.

Sort of prairie point variations I think I will copy.

I like ragged edges too. They cascade in an interesting way.

Very Vintage dolls

Dolls again!

made the Marie-Antoinette half doll. Painted the bisque torso and dressed her lavishly with ribbons and lace.

The two charming porcelain dolls I found at and antique fair in NZ. They are very sweet and saucy.
I think they are English and in great condition, did not break them bringing them back.
Good job Lilla!

Look on my Etsy for these very soon.

Love our coral reefs

Reef life and lore is so wonderful to explore.
Never quite know what you will find to enchant. While doing a bit of 'poking' around in our waters I spied some pretty seascapes.
