A compact with mirror. Gift
Mirror compact for a gift

I made a little tute for the mirror that goes in a compact pouch to carry inside one's purse.
It is quick and easy.
Embellish or not. I can see Miss Pat doing her CQ on it. That would be great.
All you need is a piece of silk or nice fabric, embroidered or not.
Cardboard and batting cut about 1cm. larger all around than the mirror.
Round mirror, mine is 7 cm, From craft store.
Piece of ribbon for hanger.
Glue.
Gimp or lace or trim to surround the mirror edge.
Place batting, thin please, on back of card.
Cut fabric with pinking shears 1 cm larger than card.
Glue rim on other side. Pull fabric over and adhere firmly. Loop ribbon and glue across card. This is a handy holder for fishing it out of the pouch.
Now glue mirror atop, use strong glue like 'gold bottle.'
Trim the edges of mirror with pretty trim. Cover mirror edge slightly.
Important, press under a pile of books till dry.
Add a bead or flower as I have. Or maybe lace motif.
The compact is lined and padded and mirror can be stitched to it or not.
Nice gift for a friend.
I would love to see any you make.

Painted lady

Over the years I have painted, photographed and stitched villas. Mostly in NZ.
This one is now my daughters. I love the look of paint and stitchery and often use it in my work.
This is just muslin and acrylics.
Embroidery mostly French knots. It makes an effective dimensional picture to frame without glass.

cards and more of them

I recycle and I make do . Cards are easy to use up trims and pictures saved.
Scrap cards are made from things on my desk. The pictures are some already used from water printing.
The leftover has an aged grainy look. Water color dyed the background card.
Deckle cards look really classic. Got to have deckle edge scissors if no others. Mattting them makes them look professional. White paper inside dark cards so they can be written on.

Cherubs, not just for Christmas

love cherubs and used this image for a long time.
Made up some kits on my Etsy shop, they come with everything to complete assorted projects.
I did use a tri-fold card for my project.
Have used the image for a cushion, bag, doll, ornament, tassel and more, try one out.
Very shabby chic. hard to find the cards these days , luckily I still have some.

glitter cards

Hard to photograph these but they look quite retro and exotic for gift packages.
You need transparency images, any will do, white glue , card, lace, ribbon, lots of fine glitter.
Cut a shape with the clear image, glue to a card. Smear glue completely around that and lavish on the glitter.
Dry, punch hole in top, mount to a lace covered background. Add a ribbon bow and little flower maybe. Adorn a gift with it.

My quick and glam. purse for holidays.

Follow pics from bottom to top.
I have taught this folded purse for years so thought you may find it handy. Adjust the proprtions for fabric width you use.
It is self lined and interlined with only 2 seams. Wow! How much fun and quick too.
Embellish when done or if you figure out where to put the lace etc. add as you go.
Hope this makes sense. Cut 6" wide strip of fabric right across to selvedge. I used silk 53" wide so cut 6 x 53.
Fold in half and press fold.
Place horizontally with fold to right and 2 selvedges to left. It is double now.
Pocket, fold right side up 11" then down to meet original fold, you will have 6 layers. Press.
Flap, fold doubled selvedges over to cover the opening on the right, about 2" will overlap.
Adjust as you like because you are making the flap. It will be about 5 1/2". Press.
Now sew the two sides all the way, zigzag if fabric is fraying like mine.
Turn out the flap, and then the pocket. Just 2 turns. Press and pullout corners. Fold flap into place, press.
Take some cord or ribbon and sew under the flap for a shoulder strap.
Decorate how you like, I added a lace motif and would do some ribbonwork probably.
Hint, If you want to do embellishing as you sew, lift flap pieces add lace.
Maybe baste purse first to figure out placement. I had to.
