counting the days

I am leaving in couple days for my annual vacation.
Fulfilling last minute projects. Busy bee!
Thanks for checking on me.
I am a good swimmer but that could have become really bad.

This is to say have a peaceful Sunday.
Fragment of an embroidery on a purse.

Life boat not needed

Well once again we escaped the traumatic event of a tsunami.
Here in Honolulu it was calm, people are lovely and take care of each other.
At one point I thought I may have to get in my canoe and head out of here.
Kidding of course, I am up in the foothills of the mountains and pretty OK.
I do want to thank everyone for their concern and best wishes.
Life is very fragile here on the most remote archipelago on earth.

Update Tsunami

Watching it hit Hilo and Kahalui right now, not on this Island yet.
No word of damage, fish flopping about on exposed reefs and couple beaches have disappeared under water. I will keep my friends updated as I can.

Tsunami

As I write this the sirens are sounding and we have a Tsunami warning under way.
I live a mile from the beach and am not in the evacuation zone, thankfully.
Picture of normal Waikiki, today the beach is empty, been evacuated.
Did see 2 surfers out there!
We do not expect it to be too major here, arrival time is an hour from now.
I am ready! Water, food, and more on board.

project, Sleeve or Envy

This hardly qualifies as a project but here it is.
Print the graphic onto good quality paper, full size, or you could make it half size.
Fold and sew.
Make opening on an end or sometimes I do it along the top.
Gather white crepe streamer to fit the bottom and sew it on, or glue it.
Punch 2 holes and reinforce them.
I decorated the sleeve by outlining the pictures with glitter. Add buttons or lace or whatever you like.
Finally tie a satin ribbon to close.
Use the sleeve for gift presentations, letters or cards.

Behold an angel

More about the cuff below later.

This is an angel made from old linens, another in a series been making for years and enjoying the ideas that she brings along. She is sold.

I am getting ready to do my 'walk about' that I seem to make every year at this time.

Will post exactly when I close but it is another week or so.
I need to see family and refresh myself.
Take lots of inspirational photos and collect new images for my art.

Applique easy tute.

To create easy iron on appliques with glitz.
Find fabric with a motif you like.
I used Hawaiian fabric flowers.
Iron wonder under to the back.
Leave paper on.
Cut out shape. Paint with Aleene's fabric fusion.
Sprinkle a lot of glitter on top. Let dry. Martha.
Shake off extra glitter, peel off paper, iron onto your project.
This is part of a cuff.
You can stitch through it, bead it or whatever.

Carnival at Punahou

Went to Carnival at Punahou school.
President Obama went to school there, it is only a short walk from my place.
Picture is of my hat with a lovely Haku lei.

The dye colors below were a mix of wine and Chocolate brown.

Old book into shadow box

I made a shadow box with a couple of my old sepia photos.
Destroying a book for a good cause is OK I say.
It was an old Readers digest, about to be discarded at the thrift shop.

Make cord from silk rippins.

videoOr fabric can be used. Rip silk about 1cm wide. you can buy it made from Sari silk like I did. Variegated thread in the machine, top and bobbin. Set on wide zigzag and sew while twisting the rippins. May need to gently pull from behind.

Use cord for purse handles, to make necklaces, or to couch onto art collage.

Now don't laugh, you get the idea.
