Will be giving a demo in creative velvet flowers and leaves, at Quilt Festival Long Beach.

This project was in my local park.
We were given 4 gallon paint buckets and some house paint, to make 'art'
The idea was to quickly brush on the paint in a random fashion, and take the containers home to grow seeds in.
The buckets were unused and our leader had punched lots of holes in the bottom.
They came with a page of growing tips and how to tend the bucket gardens.
We could plant veges or flowers, they would be nurtured in the ideal environment.
Fun for small and big kids like me.
Thanks to Nicole and family for telling me about the fun event last Sunday.

To make, cut up the CD.
paint the reverse side and glue a magazine picture on the front.
Use diamond glaze to give dimension to the center image, leave the background matte.
Use hot glue and quickly surround the edge with a thick line, add gold leaf and seed beads while glue still warm.
No leaf, wait until glue is cool and then paint with gold or with glitter.
Glue seed beads in parts.
Finally make pendant neck-pieces or add brooch pins on the back.
I have made these for years and they hold up perfectly.

A little sampler with ideas for 6 strand embroidery floss.
Try different stitches to see how they look and make something at the same time.
I do not like to waste even the smallest stitchery piece.
The trick here was to use soft English country colors on linen.
It becomes a meadow.

My class began today. Not too late to take it, see left for link.
I included all the ideas and two pages of downloads of images I used, so you can replicate mine.
It is similar to the book that I have in Somerset Sew, June copy.
Look for my shop on Etsy, there I will sell the books later.

I found this great company using a lot of re-cycled paper and tyvek, in my travels.
The outfit here is all made from paper, an Italian artist created it.
Here too, is my bag that is made of tyvek, from same company.
I am going to try to create one myself, so stay tuned for that.

I had a pair of Victorian baby socks that were knitted, and over a hundred years young.
Found at an estate sale years ago.
After a while and no ideas I gave them to my local thrift shop.
Recently rummaging through a box of discards there, guess what I found?
So the rest is easy, took them back and gave them a bit of a vintage alteration.
Here is one. Other is languishing in my studio waiting an update.
Where did the photos go?
Blog mishap, here they are now, thanks for letting me know.

Clip boards are so useful and essential in my studio.
Here is one way to jazz up a small one to hold notes and ideas.
Paint the board dark brown. Tear a piece of stained ephemera and adhere.
Glue on some torn lace fragments, top and bottom.
Tie a double bow with old seam binding and glue to bottom with a button in center.
Find an old broken buckle or brooch bits and another button and 2 rhinestones. Fix together and glue to the hinge with tacky glue.
Hang above your desk or table for a picture perfect clip board.
