This is ticking

Also called pillow ticking, French ticking and even mattress ticking.
Either red, brown or blue in the "olden days". Now I think it is in other colors.
I grew up with it on our bed pillows, along with scrim on the walls.
Really old farm life in what would be called today, a cabin.

Lilla,

I am in love with "Ticking" in any color!!
I had my mother's four poster bed when I was young with a horse hair mattress with black and white ticking!! It was very Comfortable and I loved my bedroom set very much! I also have an old quilt that my great aunt gave me with many lovely ticking squares on it...there are a few with a lovely shade of sky blue ticking on it.

Hugs to you,

Susan

I remember it too when I was a child.
Wasn't it fun to jump into the middle of a fluffed up mattress filled with kapok, or to watch the feathers fly out the seams of the pillows when you had a pillow fight.
And yes there was scrim under the many layers of wallpaper in my bedroom. I know that because I passed the time picking holes in the paper when forced to "have a lie down" in the afternoons.
Those were good old days.

I remember seeing ticking on my grandmother's pillows and thinking, how old are these pillows?

Now, I love old things, their history and their age spots.

Funny how it all comes back around, especially now that I'm old enough to be a grandmother. UGH, that hurt to say.

Ah so that's ticking - it's lovely and vintage looking isn't it, and I bet it's really versatile to use
