French books

Made for some friends.
We are having a workshop get together today.
I will do some steam punk and will see what they create.
The books are made from ephemera I collected in France.
I hand bound them with linen found in a flea market, included a piece of lace and an old sepia postcard.
Hope they like them.

run out of steam, I am kidding.

I will put up more lace soon.
Need to rest now!
Taking 2 Aspirin and lying down before I go swim with the mermaids.
Little vintage dress and apron I have recently made.
Apron not shown.
My silly sense of humor.

Yeah!

Yes my friend Anna Korba is in the previous picture with her hand on my shoulder.
What a dear! We had much fun.
Here is the amazing group again

Yeah!

Ok I am second from right.

Did my pants give me away?

Little talk about lace.
I am not an expert, but have dabbled in it all my life.
Even made lace years ago.
If lace is bought in France it can come across the pond from England, and often does.
Much of machine made french lace is created on looms in Lyon.
A dying art, by the way.

Lace also arrives in France from Switzerland and Belgium, probably other countries too.

I was asked about netting lace from France, almost gone now, and you know why, the net rots.
If you find it, usually is a scrap, and with rips in it.
Now villagers hold onto good pieces and charge a fortune.

The lace I purchased was usually thrown in a big plastic sack. I had to take the lot.
So mine is a mix of all sorts.
I am putting it in bunches of similar kinds.

Don't tell which is me.

Gals I finally met up with in France.
Shane you know so hush!
I am working on lace, bigger job than I thought.
Making sure it is laundered and pressed if need be.

Just lace

One of my fave markets in France.
I have way too much lace after cleaning my studio.
So I am going to put together bundles and will sell them.

Hot, hot, but a Trade wind blowing

Not knowing what to post today, it is very hot and humid in the Islands.
Maybe one of my recent mermaids?

An honor, and more work to do.

IQA, International Quilt Association, has asked me to participate in a wall quilt auction, and exhibit.
I am flattered and excited.
Have to hurry and create.
More from me with some pictures as my project progresses.

The bag shown is one I made a while ago and is sold.

Stamping my way

http://lillaclass.blogspot.com/ Please copy and paste this.

Hi every one, I have saved this spot for classes and videos.
I like to try to keep them off my Just Lilla blog.
This was made because I have been asked a lot about stamping on materials that could be a bit difficult, so here are some of my ideas.

The cushion is also made from Filet.

Some art around the studio

Couple of odd things made recently.
I love pinwheels!

Came across some old Filet

If you find old filet crochet on a chemise or table runners or Antimacassars.
Usually 40s to 60s. era.
They are fun to play with.
You can cut them and sew by hand or machine. Filet does not run.
The holes are good to thread ribbons through.
Stain with tea or coffee as I have done and hang some rusty, simple element on each one.
They are going to be my book bags for the small versions of journals I create.
I am thinking, perhaps I will make a video with my ideas.
Gee lots of typos!

a slice of French life

Street scene with the lovely blue shutters that I adore.
Fun with a clothes line and a nearby birdcage.

French book.

Shabby zigzag book made with French papers I found in Provence.
Hand sewn with 3 signatures added back and front.
I love this style of book because it can stand up nicely.
It is small, about 5x3"
Hope Sunday is going happily for you

Another tribute

One of my rusted tin, make-overs.
I did the same process to this soup can as previously.
This time I decoupaged some old US papers upon it and added keys rusted in the solution I have told you about , before.
Depending on composition of metal, keys can turn out rusty or with a lovely green patina.
Rickrack and old string complete the tin and I stuffed it with shredded straw.
Pinwheels added, made of fabric.
Fourth of July centerpiece.

Tribute to Pearl Harbor.

Shadow box display I made for my Son-in-law who loves history.
Hangs on wall and has glass front. Collection from the Arizona and Missouri battleship memorials.
Evokes our Independence from those who seek to harm us!

Happy Fourth of July.

Fourth for kids

I made this funky project for children I know.
Used a sewing spool, it has a bunch of holes.
Wrapped it with red ticking, made little inserts with circles cut from paper and glued to toothpicks.
I used a red, white and blue ad.
To make the fire-works, I twisted some red and silver pipe cleaners and inserted everything using some tacky glue.
I know it is too simple, still the sentiment is real

A signature cushion

made with prints from France and old lace collected from a big market in Mirepoix.
